I am a lifelong Audiophile - without the means to be one - that moved away from analog 30 years ago - shortly after my children were born. One of them accidently bent the stylus on my Blue Point Special and rather than place them up for adoption or send the cartridge in to be repaired, I sold my TD160.
I was inspired to get back into Vinyl after listening to a friends vintage LP12. My system, built around CD and Streaming included vintage Apogee Stage speakers, an Aragon 4004 mkII amp and 24k preamp, and a sub by Rythmik. My latest addition was a Node X for high res streaming. -Magical-
Having kept up with the newest products for home audio, I wanted a vinyl centric system but wanted everything that new tech offers as well. We recently downsized and I wanted the system to also compliment our much smaller 1916 Bungalow. It took over a year to develop the first console design due to the inherent problems created by the platform. Everything about a console compromises the quality of the sound and imposes substantial engineering problems.
Problem 1 - Speaker Placement - you can not reposition the speakers. No toe in. No 3ft from the back wall. No taller or shorter stands. etc....
Problem2 - Turntable Isolation - everything about the final design addresses this issue. My turntable isolation solution is absolutely unique to console design.
Solution 1 - Do not try to be a speaker designer. Chose a speaker that has good off axis response and does not need to be 3ft out from the rear wall.
Solution 2 - Do no try to be a turntable designer. I can speak more on this once I have filed a Provisional Patent Application on the vibration isolation system.
DESIGN PRICIPALS -
Optimize the existing quality of all components.
Use the highest quality components that operate within the cost/performance envelope.
Implement the components into a thoughtful and interesting design that performs and functions as it should. "Form Follows Function"

This is "Prototype 2"
Lessons learned from "Prototype 1" resulted in a major redesign that substantially increased sound quality while reducing cost by over 30%.
Prototype 1 and 2 used the exact same components but have a different quality in sound reproduction
As a throwback to the Fender Rhodes, I used vintage Fender Grill Cloth (exterior) and Tweed Cloth (interior)
Maple veneer, antique hardware, ebony and maple marquetry inlays.
This design - with a few minor changes - will be my primary design for now and will be for sale in the near future. I should be able to produce a few of these per month. If viable, I will partner with a fabricator to produce the cabinet elements on a CNC in order to produce more.
Prototype 3 - will have a fully analog signal path for vinyl playback and a second signal path for digital playback
ZU Audio DWX
Back Ice FX10h tube integrated amplifier
Wiim Ultra or Bluesound NodeX network streamer

"Prototype 1" - Many Lessons Learned
The cost to build this model is not in balance with level of components assembled. The sound was very good but the function could be better. For Instance - The cabinet frame moldings around the speakers created enough reflections and diffractions to diminish sound quality. This will go back to the bench and reconfigured to get the same sound improvements that I acieved in Prototype 2.
